Following Your Father’s WWII Footsteps in the Netherlands – A Personal Heritage Journey

Your father fought in the Netherlands during the Second World War. Perhaps you know fragments of his story: a few place names, an old photograph, or a brief family memory. And now you feel the desire to follow in his footsteps—to see where he was, where he lived, and where history unfolded around him.

But how do you find those places?

You may have spent hours searching online, exploring archives, and reading the stories of others. Yet the question remains: Am I looking in the right places?

The search can feel overwhelming and uncertain.

You don’t have to do it alone.

I help people trace their family footsteps in the Netherlands and reconnect with their Dutch heritage.

With my experience in Dutch genealogical and historical research, I know where and how to look. I take care of the entire research process, allowing you to begin your journey with confidence and peace of mind. A journey centered on connection, meaning, and a deeper understanding of your family’s history in the Netherlands.

During a personalized WWII Heritage Tour, I guide you to the locations where your father served as a soldier. Together, we reconstruct his route, visit places of historical significance, and reflect on the moments that shaped his story in the very landscape where it happened.

What Happens When You Stand There…

At the very place.

And you can say:

“This is where my father once stood.”

It is an experience that reaches far beyond words.

Sometimes It Is Not About Where Someone Is Buried, But Where Their Story Began

Recently, I guided an American couple with a very different, yet equally meaningful wish. They wanted to visit a place connected to their uncle, who was killed during the Second World War.

Their uncle had originally been buried at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial. He has since been reinterred in the United States. Yet they still felt compelled to travel to Belgium—not because he was buried there anymore, but because it was the place where his story became real.

Together, we stood there in silence.

At the place where he had once been laid to rest, where others had honored his sacrifice, where his presence could still be felt.

It reminded me once again that a roots or heritage journey is not merely about archives or locations.

It is about meaning.

About remembrance.

About connection—even when someone is no longer physically present in that place.
